Giving Back
We are a community bank with community values, and our employees are your friends and neighbors. That means we’re not just a financial resource, but an active part of the towns and neighborhoods we call home. We believe that the best bank cares about the people, not the accounts.
We are passionate about giving back to the communities we call home. When you bank with us, you bank with people who are always looking for ways to volunteer and support local causes and community events. Our profits go right back to local people, boosting the local economy and helping those in need.
Here are a few examples of how we give back to our communities and engage those who live in them:
Our employees annually donate to the United Way of Effingham County, which raises funds for 22 local partner agencies. Our first campaign was held in 2005 and raised $1,200. We have grown over the years, with our recent 2021 campaign raising a whopping $13,500! We are very proud of our employees and their support of United Way. Because of them, we were named the United Way of Effingham County’s 2019 & 2020 Outstanding Organization.
KidPreneur
We support small businesses, no matter how small! Our KidPRENEUR Pop Up Shops give children the opportunity to showcase their business in our branch lobbies and get valuable working experience. Not only do they now have temporary retail space, but we also supply them with business cards, a professional head shot, and we handle the marketing for them!
Support-A-Class
Dieterich Bank wanted to make sure that teachers in our communities have everything they need to make the school year successful, which is why our employees developed a program called Support-A-Class. Through this program, teachers were given $200 to pay for their classroom needs that may slip through the cracks of school funding. To participate, teachers completed a form which states how they would use the extra funds to inspire their students or to further student education.
Charity of Choice
Developed in February 2019, the Charity of Choice program allows one branch or department within the Bank to give $1,000 each month to an unsuspecting not-for-profit organization or charity of the group’s choosing. Learn more here.
Blessings in a Backpack
Many kids rely on school for regular meals, meaning they can go hungry over the weekend. Our employees participate in packing sessions for Blessings in a Backpack, a non-profit that helps feed these kids. In just one hour, we were able to pack around 800 bags of food. That amount will serve 400 kids in Effingham County with meals over the weekend. We are very fortunate to have an organization like this in our community!
Local Parades
An annual event that you can always count on to bring a community together is a parade. We love participating in local parades, designing floats to surprise parade-goers in all of the communities we serve. We look forward to it every year. We hope we see you at one of the parades!
Pool Takeovers
Dieterich Bank's annual Pool Day is becoming one of our favorite late-summer staples in Newton. Our employees “take over” the Newton Aquatic Center just in time to say goodbye to summer. We pay for everyone in the community to enjoy a free day at the pool while we host games and give away prizes. What better way to have one last huzzah together before the weather cools off!
Taste of Teutopolis
Who doesn’t love food? Every year, Dieterich Bank is proud to sponsor the Taste of T-Town. At this event, attendees enjoy food samples, or tastings, made by local citizens. It’s a great way to try a lot of different, tasty food, and we love seeing all the happy, satisfied people who attend! All proceeds help high school students attend the Catholic Heart Work Camp Mission Trip.
Our Customer Appreciation Picnics are held annually in September to honor the people who make the bank's success possible – its customers! We have had a lot of pork burgers and good times over the last few decades!
