- Secure socket layer (SSL) technology is used to encrypt personal information being transmitted between the bank and its customers. SSL utilizes mathematical formulas to encrypt or hide information from unauthorized users.
- A firewall separates the bank’s data from the internet.
- An intrusion detection system and an intrusion prevention system are used to constantly monitor the data transmitted to and from the bank’s computers.
- Passcodes are encrypted and cannot be accessed by the bank or its service providers.
- After five failed password attempts, a user account is locked.
- Users are required to change their passcodes every 180 days.
- Users cannot reuse their prior three passwords.
- Passwords must be at least 8 characters, contain a mix of letters and numbers, contain a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, and have at least one special character.
Consumers may take additional steps to help safeguard personal information. A few precautions to take are:
- Don’t share your user ID, password, or security questions and answers with anyone.
- Change your password regularly.
- Passwords should not contain your username or personally identifiable information.
- Never disclose confidential information to unknown persons.
- Never open emails, attachments, links, etc. from unknown sources.
- Use a secure internet connection and current virus protection software when possible.
